Five Courageous RGH Frontliners Roll Up Their Sleeves to Tackle COVID-19
Today will go down in history for Roosevelt General Hospital and the Portales community, as the first dose of the two-dose Pfizer Coronavirus vaccine was administered.
Late this afternoon, five RGH employees were given the first dose of the two-dose Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. The candidates were selected on a tiered system stemming from those who work in patient care areas. The vaccination was administered as an intramuscular injection in the upper arm. The next dose for each recipient is scheduled for 21 days from today. Each vaccinated employee receives a COVID-19 vaccination record card which records medical information about the dose and where it was administered.
With most vaccinations, minor side-effects may occur. The newly developed Pfizer vaccination side-effects include headache, fever, and soreness around the injection site.
As of now, it’s estimated that the public will be able to receive the vaccine in late spring or early summer. Everyone should continue to wear a face mask, practice social distancing and follow the public health order. For more information concerning the safety of the vaccine, visit www.cdc.gov.
